Developed for a publication on survivalism, Catastrofi takes influence from several transitional serif typefaces which, used against a rigid sans-serif body type, creates a sense of rationality and calm. However, it also incorporates elements like a faded stencil effect and large x-height which are categorically irrational. As well as this, I have incorporated more subtle elements, like the oversized ears and terminals and intentional lack of ligatures to ensure that the typeface feels a little bit ‘off’. In this way, even when the reader has catalogued the text as being either rational or irrational, it will never quite fit perfectly.
